The Clock Tower
Made during the Shovel Jam.
I used Godot as the game engine, REAPER and Surge XT for music and SFX, and Aseprite for art.
I got the idea for this project after finishing Hollow Knight back in 2023, and the inspiration after finishing Nine Sols in 2024 (go check both out, truly amazing games). So, I immediately dove in head first trying to make this game as my magnum opus (which was a terrible idea, by the way), and created an absolute mess my first time around. So, I restarted, gathered what I learnt the first time around, and tried again, but inspiration quickly dried up and I was left with a barebones scaffolding for a project.
Then, I heard about the Shovel Jam from my daily shorts scroll, and got an idea: What if I tried this "game development" thing for a third time?
And that's how I got here.
Looking back on the mistakes I've made previously, I decided to give state machines a try in order to organize my code better, and I'd say it turned out pretty well. I also chose to add adaptive music, which turned out great (except for the lag when it tries to play 4 tracks at once, as there's 4 layers). I also figured out how collisions work in Godot, which I failed at the past 2 times, so that's great too.
The finished product is... still not great, but it's certainly improved from my previous attempts, so that's a plus.
